What families are saying about Gaven Early Learning Centre

QLD Kindergarten Eligibility

The Queensland Government funds 15 hours per week, 40 weeks per year of free kindy. The outstanding amount gets split between you and the CCS. If your family is eligible for the CCS, you’ll keep claiming that. If your child attends a long day care kindy, you’ll pay for the hours of care outside of the kindy program (15 hours per week). Your CCS could cover some of these costs as well.

The Australia Childcare Alliance and Kidsoft have this handy Free Kindy calculator. Enter your session details in either the daily or fortnightly calculator. This will give you an idea of what your family’s out-of-pocket costs will be. The fortnightly calculator gives a clearer picture of your kindy savings by calculating your CCS and free kindy hours for the whole fortnight.

Gaven Early Learning Centre is dedicated to providing the highest quality education and care for children aged between 6 weeks to 13 years. Our team of qualified and passionate educators understand the unique needs of each child, and we strive to create individualised learning experiences that cater to their interests and abilities.

Our primary goal is to support your child’s growth and development, while also ensuring their safety, well-being and happiness is met. With a family-oriented approach, we create a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere where every child feels a sense of belonging. We are proudly family-owned and operated, and our commitment to building strong connections with our community sets us apart.

Government Approved Free Kindy

Yes, Kindy is free for all eligible children in Queensland! The Queensland Government provides 15 hours of free Kindy each week for 40 weeks per year for children attending approved kindergarten programs. This initiative ensures every child has the opportunity to get a strong start in their learning and development.

Free Kindy can be spread across two or three days per week, depending on your chosen service. Approved programs deliver 15 hours weekly for 40 weeks of the year. Services in long daycare settings may include additional hours of care outside of these 15 hours, which families can cover through the Australian Government Child Care Subsidy.

Yes, Kindy continues to be free in Queensland throughout 2025 for eligible children. Families can access 15 hours of free education weekly in any government-approved Kindy program, giving children the chance to learn, play, and grow in a nurturing environment.

Yes, Kindy and daycare serve slightly different purposes. Kindergarten (Kindy) is a structured, part-time educational program designed to prepare children for the transition to Prep. It focuses on play-based learning and is delivered by qualified teachers. Daycare, on the other hand, provides extended care hours and supports daily routines for children of different ages. Some long daycare services include a Kindy program, blending education and care seamlessly.

No, Kindy is not compulsory in Queensland. However, it’s strongly encouraged as it plays a vital role in preparing children socially, emotionally, and academically for school. Participating in a Kindy program helps children build confidence, develop essential skills, and enjoy meaningful learning experiences.
